Update from San Francisco

It has been a while since my last post. Lots have happened during my absence, first my Wife had some serious medical problems to deal with and needed my constant help. We also had visitors from Korea and my sister and niece visited. Two new grandsons joined the family..... but I have to confess, I've been spending most of my free time on other photo sharing sites.
I have a new camera, Nikon D810 and a couple of new lenses and I am ready to try to get this blog site going again, and to be more consistent.
Here is a shot I took at Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco.

Won Some New Lenses 2

Over the weekend, I picked up the new lens, (Tamron 70-300mm), that I won in the Jpg Magazine/Tamron contest. Today I took it out to shoot some test shots using it with the Nikon D7100 Camera that my three sons bought me for Christmas. This lens is great, it focuses fast, it's quiet and the images are sharp. This will be my favorite telephoto lens for shooting the street, landscapes and even portraits.

Won Some New Lenses

This has been a good year for winning photo contests. Earlier this year, I won the community prize and was awarded a Sigma 50mm f1.4 ART Lens from a photo contest sponsored by Sigma and JPG Magazine, then more recently, I again won JPG Magazine's community prize in a contest co-sponsored by Tamron Lenses, I received a Tamron 70-300mm Lens.

Thanks JPG Magazine, Sigma and Tamron!

Middle Harbor Shoreline Park

Yesterday I discovered a new park in Oakland where there are dozens of fantastic things to photograph. The park is Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, and as it's name suggests, it is right in the middle of Oakland Harbor. From the shoreline you can see San Francisco, the Bay Bridge, the giant cranes at Oakland Ports, used to load and unload cargo ships, these giant ships pass so close to the shoreline you feel as if you can reach out and touch them. There are also lots of sea birds. I'll be going back to this park soon, with all my camera equipment, so you can expect lots of photos in the near future.

Mother's Day Off The Grid Picnic

Yesterday, 11 May 2014, was Mother's Day so we met up with our three sons, two daughter-in-laws and our two grandsons at the Off The Grid Picnic on the Presidio in San Francisco.  It was a wonderful day. Also, later this week, on Wednesday I'll be going to a Gaint's game at Pac Bell Park in San Francisco. Then, on Thursday I'll take a trip down to Monterey, Carmel and Point Lobos. The following week (May 20,21 and 22) I'll be traveling to the High Sierra to photograph in the ghost town of Bodie and at Mono Lake. I Hope to have some good photos to share here.

Mare Island

Today I went to Mare Island in Vallejo California. In 1854 Mare Island was the first permanent U.S. Naval Station on the U.S. West Coast. It was deactivated in 1995 and is slowly being redeveloped. Many of the old buildings still stand empty and are falling into decay. Here are a few shots from Mare Island that I shot today.
